What
does Assisted Living mean? |
Assisted
Living at Victorian Heights gives the tenant the opportunity to not
only live life independently, but to get support and assistance with
daily tasks and personal care, allowing them to live independently
longer. Accommodations within Victorian Heights offers comfortable,
elegant lodging and easy access to therapeutic, recreational, devotional,
social and nutritional services.

Who owns and operates Victorian Heights Assisted Living?
|
Victorian
Heights is operated in conjunction with the Iron County Medical Care
Facility. It is owned by the County of Iron, with it's operation overseen
by the facility's governing body, the Iron County Department of Human
Services Board.

Are tenants accepted from other areas besides Iron County? |
Yes.
Victorian Heights Assisted Living housing has no residency restrictions
and does not limit occupancy to only Iron County residents, however,
residents within the County are given priority on the waiting list.

Where is Victorian Heights Assisted Living Located? |
We
are located approximately 2 miles West of Crystal Falls and 13 miles
East of Iron River on US Highway 2, in the County of Iron in the Upper
Peninsula of Michigan.

Is transportation available to the tenants
of Victorian Heights? |
Transportation
services are provided for the tenants of Victorian Heights Assisted
Living, which includes shopping trips to local areas and surrounding
communities and to outside scheduled activities. Transportation to
medical, dental, vision and hearing appointments are provided twice
a month within a
30-mile radius, which includes the Iron Mountain area at no charge
to the tenant. Additional transports to appointments will be charged
staffing fees and mileage at the current rate. In order to provide
proper transportation services, the Victorian Height's staff needs
to make the appointments in order to ensure staff availability. If
a tenant chooses to make his/her own appointments, Victorian Heights
will not be responsible for transportation services.

May I have my own vehicle at Victorian
Heights? |
Yes,
tenants may park in our main parking lot for no additional fee.

What are prospective tenants, families, friends
and relatives looking for in assisted living?
|
Although
there are many reasons individuals have looked into Victorian Heights
Assisted Living, we can narrow the reasons down to six major areas
of consern: Isolation, Medication Assistance, Meals, Transportation,
Socialization and Security. At Victorian Heights we address
all of these concerns and many, many more. We are pleased with the
positive responses that come back to us from the tenant's families,
friends and relatives. Many of our tenant's families have offered
their names as contacts for testimonials to the care and attention
they receive from our entire staff.

How does Victorian Heights staff its facility? |
All
tenants who reside at Victorian Heights have access to the following
staff: Medical Health Associates, Services Director, Customer Service
Associates and Manager. The facility is staffed 24 hours a day, 7
days a week, including holidays.

Can I bring furnishings from home? |
Victorian
Heights provides each apartment with a stove/oven, refrigerator, microwave
and mini-blinds for the windows. The rest of the apartment is left up
to the individual tenants to furnish as they like for their own particular
needs and taste. Being able to individualize gives you a sense of security
and comfort which allows you to call it "home".

Can my pets live with me or visit me? |
From
July 27th, 2006 and forward, pets such as cats and dogs will not be
accepted, with the exception of current tenants of Victorian Heights
with pets. Pets requiring little or no maintenance such as small birds
or fish will be permitted once approved by the assisted living management.

Can my friends and family stay with me in my apartment? |
Yes,
overnight and up to 14 day stays are permitted, subject to approval
by the Director. A fully furnished hopitality suite is also available
to our tenant's guests. The fee is $50.00 per day and is subject to
availablity.

What
is Iron County Medical Care Facility? |
Iron
County Medical Care Facility, a 200 bed skilled nursing home facility,is
the cornerstone operation of Victorian Heights Assisted Living. Established
in 1930, ICMCF provides long-term skilled nursing care to all residents
young and old. A full continuum of Alzheimer's and related dementia
care along with rehabilitative therapy services is also included within
the program.

How
does an Assisted Living Facility differ from a Nursing Home? |
Nursing
homes are designed to accommodate numerous physical and mental needs
for people that are unable to care for themselves. Assisted living facilities
are designed to assist persons who are able to care for themselves except
for a few activities of daily living. Assisted living facilities are
often deemed necessary when the person in question needs help with activities
of daily living such as: preparing meals, bathing, dressing, performing
household tasks or is having some mild short term memory problems.

Is
Victorian Heights Assisted Living Licensed? |
No.
The State of Michigan does not currently license Assisted Living providers
.

Does
Medicare or Medicaid pay for assisted living? |
There
is currently no Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement for Assisted Living.
However, there may be the potential for some financial assistance through
Medicaid's Waiver Programs in the future.

Are
there any other occupancy benefits available to tenants in assisted living
facilities? |
Yes,
veteran benefits for occupancy are available to war time veterans
and their surviving spouses. To be eligible, a veteran must have at
least 90 days or more of service, of which at least one day must have
occured during the periods of World War II, the Korean Conflict, the
Vietnam Era and the Persian Gulf War. A representative of the Military
Order of the Purple Heart is available to meet with tenants and/or
their families at the assisted living apartments to apply for these
benefits.

What
happens if I require more care than Victorian Heights can provide? |
If
the needs extend outside the scope of services provided by Victorian
Heights, the tenant will be given priority access to the Iron County
Medical Care Facility, or may choose a health care provider of their
choice.
|
Is
there a charge for an additional person occupying the same apartment? |
Yes.
Victorian Heights Assisted Living charges an additional $300.00 per
month for a second person living in an apartment. If the second tenant
so chooses one of our meal plans, or other services that we offer, they
will incur these charges also.
|
What
is included in Victorian Heights monthly rent? |
All
utilities except for telephone and Cable TV, 24 hour security and urgency
call system, weekly light housekeeping, on-site management, Internet
access, scheduled social and recreational activities, scheduled transportation,
24-hour staffing, free use of the laundry facilities, maintenance of
common areas, building, grounds care, and all facility owned property
and appliances.
